            Councilmember David Grosso announces the scheduling of a public roundtable of the Committee on Education on PR23-0702, the “Board of Library Trustees Monte Monash Confirmation Resolution of 2020;” PR23-706, the “Commission on Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes Dr. Kenneth Taylor Confirmation Resolution of 2020; PR23-073, the “District of Columbia State Athletics Commission Larry Carroll Confirmation Resolution of 2020”; and PR23-707, the “Commission on Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes Jason Spector Confirmation Resolution of 2020.” The roundtable will be held on Thursday March 12, 2020 at 12:30 p.m. in Room 123 of the John A. Wilson Building.

The stated purpose of PR23-702 is to confirm the Mayoral reappointment of Monte Monash as a public member of the Board of Library Trustees, for a term to end January 5, 2025, in accordance with section 2 of the Confirmation Act of 1978, effective March 3, 1979 (D.C. Law 2-142; D.C. Official Code § 1-523.01), and pursuant to section 4 of an Act To establish and provide for the maintenance of a free public library and reading room in the District of Columbia, approved June 3, 1896 (29 Stat. 244; D.C. Official Code § 39-104).

The stated purpose of PR23-706 is to confirm the Mayoral appointment of Dr. Kenneth Taylor as a non-governmental member of the Commission on Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes, replacing Travaugh Kinney, for a term to end November 7, 2020, in accordance with section 2 of the Confirmation Act of 1978, effective March 3, 1979 (D.C. Law 2-142; D.C. Official Code § 1-523.01), and pursuant to section 6 of the Office of Commission on Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes Establishment Act of 2016, effective April 7, 2017 (D.C. Law 21-261; D.C. Official Code § 2-1551.05).

The stated purpose of PR23-707 is to confirm the Mayoral appointment of Jason Spector as a provider of youth development programs member of the Commission on Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes, replacing Margaret Riden, for a term to end November 7, 2022, in accordance with section 2 of the Confirmation Act of 1978, effective March 3, 1979 (D.C. Law 2-142; D.C. Official Code § 1-523.01), and pursuant to section 6 of the Office of Commission on Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes Establishment Act of 2016, effective April 7, 2017 (D.C. Law 21-261; D.C. Official Code § 2-1551.05).

The stated purpose of PR23-731is to confirm the Mayoral appointment of Larry Carroll as a member of the District of Columbia State Athletics Commission, replacing John Koczela, for a term to end November 7, 2020, in accordance with section 2 of the Confirmation Act of 1978, effective March 3, 1979 (D.C. Law 2-142; D.C. Official Code § 1-523.01), and pursuant section 103 of the District of Columbia State Athletics Consolidation Act of 2016, effective April 7, 2017 (D.C. Law 21-263; D.C. Official Code § 38-2661.11).

Those who wish to testify may sign-up online at bit.do/EducationHearings or call the Committee on Education at (202) 724-8061 by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10.  Persons wishing to testify are encouraged, but not required, to submit 10-15 copies of written testimony.  Witnesses appearing on his or her own behalf should limit their testimony to three minutes; witnesses representing organizations should limit their testimony to five minutes. If you are unable to testify at the roundtable, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record. The record will close at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2020 Witnesses who anticipate needing spoken language interpretation, or require sign language interpretation, are requested to inform the Committee on Education of the need as soon as possible but no later than five (5) business days before the proceeding. We will make every effort to fulfill timely requests, however, requests received in less than five (5) business days may not be fulfilled and alternatives may be offered.
