Committee on Education Investigates DCPS Food Services Contract Settlement
Washington, D.C.--Today, Councilmember David Grosso issued the following statement on the recently announced $19.4 million settlement with the food service contractor for D.C. Public Schools (DCPS):
"Over the past week I have met with DCPS, the Attorney General, the Inspector General, and the D.C. Auditor to better understand the circumstances that led to the settlement with Chartwells and what action has been taken since the launch of the 2012 contract to ensure this does not happen again. While DCPS has assured me that they have implemented a much more rigorous contract and performance monitoring system, I do still have many questions about our food service program. Therefore, my staff and I will be spending time over the summer further studying this matter with the help of our government partners. Finally, the Committee on Education will convene an oversight hearing on contract management and food service delivery this fall."
