Grosso announces roundtables on new chancellor nomination
Washington, D.C. – Councilmember David Grosso, chairperson of the Committee on Education, announced his intention to hold public hearings on the mayor’s nomination of Antwan Wilson to be Chancellor of DC Public Schools, which was announced today. The following is his statement:
“Congratulations to Antwan Wilson on his nomination. The Chancellor of DC Public Schools has a tremendous responsibility. Over the years we have seen DCPS transform from an underperforming school system, to one that is now nationally known for its growth and innovation. But there is still much work to be done to continue improving the achievement and outcomes for all of our students. The leadership and vision of a chancellor is key to those efforts.”
“In August, I sent a letter to the Mayor sharing thoughts on characteristics I believe are important for a future leader of the school system. With that in mind, I look forward to thoroughly examining Mr. Wilson’s record over the next few weeks. I also look forward to hearing perspectives and thoughts from the community on this nomination. The Committee on Education will be holding public roundtables on November 30, December 5, and December 8. The first two will be out in the community and the final one will take place at the John A. Wilson Building. More details on locations and times will be available shortly.”
